There are numerous number of dance style which are performed in every country, state and region of the world . But at this point of time i will tell you about our INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCE STYLE.
The Indian classical dance has developed a type of dance drama which is the form of theater.The dancer creates an exclusive story by his or her facial expressions and gestures.
The Indian classical dance is followed by Natyashastra which defines that a performance is considered when it manages to create Rass(emotions)and Bhavas (expressions and gestures).
The classical dance is different from the folk dance in the way that it follows the rules and guidelines of Natyashastra.
So now let us know about Indian classical dance form and style.
Bharatnatyam is a form of dance form from Tamil Nadu.A state form the South of India.This dance is predominantly practiced by women as a solo dance performance.This dance is usually accompanied by carnatic music.It expresses Hindu religious themes and spiritual ideas particularly Shaivism, Vaishnasim and Shaktism.According to history of Bharatnatyam it came into practice since 1000Bc
It is a stylized dance drama which was originated in Kerela in 17th century.This dance form is a story play art which is distinguished by its colorful makeup ,heavy costumes, face masks wearing by male performers of dance.The roots of Kathakali are in temples and folk arts suvh as Kutiyattam and religious drama.It involves the movements from ancient martial arts and athletic traditions of south India.
Kathak is a dance style which is originated in ancient northern India.The performers of Kathak are known as Kathakars (story tellers).Performers of kathak tell a story through their hand movements, foot works and facial expressions. The kathak dance form comprises of the foot movements adorned with small bells known as ghungroos.It also involves graceful hand movements and facial expressions.The facial expressions involves the movements of eyeballs and eyebrows through which the dancers communicate and try to tell a story. According to history of kathak it is traceable in India since 400 BCE.
This dance style is originated from a village name Kuchipudi in the Andhara Pradesh state of India. In the history of kuchipudi all kuchipudi dancers were only males who used to become women also in their peformances . the dance syle includes Pure dance(nritta) and expressive part of the performance(nritya).Now in modern century kuchipudi artist include both men and women.
This style of classical dance was generated in .hindu temples of Orrisa.It is predominantly performed by women and in this form the spirituals ideas of Vaishnavism.It also expresses the traditions of Hindu god Shiva and Surya.It is also a dance drama form of performing arts.
Sattriya style of Indian classical dance is originated from Assam in 15th century .It attributed to 15th century Bhakti movement saint named Srimanta Sankardev.The history of Sattriya evidenced from the copper plate inscriptions and sculptures relating to Shaivism and Shaktism traditions.
Also known as Jagoi this dance form is originated from the northern state in India, Manipur.Its love performances are inspired by Radha-krishna’s dance Rassleela. It is basically a team performance with its unique costumes.
This dance form is developed in Kerela.It got its name from Mohini a seductress avtar of lord vishnu who uses her charms to prevail good in the battle between good and bad in the hindu mythology. it is accompanied by slower body (sopana) style music. And predominantly done by women.
