Bhangra dance.What is it?
As I wrote earlier Its a traditional dance from Punjab. This dance is basically of two categories One is of Traditional folk dance which is primarily performed in a circle and the dance steps are more of traditional ones and also they were particularly performed in Harvest season but now a days they are performed on several occasions as well. They are very popular in those districts of Pakistan which were initially part of Punjab but after independence they became the part of Pakistan and this dance form is quiet famous and popular there.
This dance form is done with traditional dance methods and is accompanied by traditional Bhangra music.
The another category which falls under this dance form is Free Form of this dance. The free form saw the development in the 1950s. It includes the traditional bhangra dance as well as it included the elements and sequences of other Punjabi dances like Luddi, dhamaal. Jhumar etc.
Costumes of the dancers...
The costumes which the performers of this dance form wear are very decorative and colorful. The male performers wear a long kurta, accompanied which a colorful jacket on the upperbody and for lower body they wear a silk cloth(dhoti) which is comfortabley tucked on the stomach as they perform many complicated steps and make different complicated positions and formations so for that they need comfortable clothing,On the the other side the female dancers also wear kurti, accompanied by dupatta which can be tucked on the shoulders or on the head . On bottom they also wear dhoti or salwar(loose pants) so that they can make their steps and postures flexible enough. Also in traditional folk the dancers also carry long sticks which helps them to create different formations.
