Ghoomar dance,the traditional dance.
Having its origin from Bhil tribe of Rajasthani communities,Ghoomar dance is the form of Folk dance which is traditional and is performed to worship Goddess Sarasvati.This is the dance form which involves traditional dance steps and they are really graceful and beautiful, They are a bit complicated but are very enjoyable to do as well as to watch.
As I heard about this dance form I was really curious to know about and in my research I got to know amazing facts and things regarding this dance form, which I am going to share with my readers.
Ghoomar dance.What is it?
As I also wrote earlier that this dance form has its origin from the Indian state, Rajasthan. This is primarily performed by women and they perform this dance usually by moving in and out in a wide circle, and it is usually a group dance but it can be performed solely also.
Ghoomar word basically means “ghoomna” which suggests about the twirling circle movements. As this dance is the traditional dance form, it is performed in Rajasthani rituals, marriages, special occasions etc.
This dance typically involves the dance steps which has there main focus on the waist movements and the hand movements. These movements are very graceful and are done by the peformers very beautifully. The songs on which dance is performed are known as ghumer songs.
This dance form is improvisational but have it roots from the tradition of Rajasthan.
The women who perform this dance form wear the traditional ethnic costume,Which has beautiful colors ,embroideries and traditional work on them. On the upper body they wear a beautiful heavy blouse or short kurti,Accompanied by chunri(duppatta) which is tucked on the head and on the waist.Also jewelry on the head as well as the necklaces and earrings are important part of the attire. On the lower body they wear a long skirt having heavy work on it ,which is known a ghagra. As this dance form has lots of circular steps, So by wearing Ghagra these steps look more beautiful and graceful. This dress is very heavy by weight and is completely traditional.
