Garba dance .The enjoyable bubbly dance.
Having its origin from Gujrat,State of India,Garba dance is the traditional folk dance of Gujrat.This dance involves many beautiful steps, gestures and beautiful costumes wore by both Men and Women. This dance is very enjoyable to do as well as to watch.
After I started my research on this dance form, i was really amazed to know about the facts and information This dance consisted of. Now I am going to share all those Information with my readers.
Garba dance.What is it?
As I wrote earlier that garba dance is the traditional dance of Gujrat.It is usually done on a festival celebrated popularly all over the state which is Known as Navratri(The nine nights).It is the festival which is celebrated to worship Goddess Durga and her powers.This dance form is done in a group making the big ring of garba dancers and between the ring the picture of Goddess Durga or an enlightened lamp is kept and then the dancers start dancing and revolving in the circle.
The dancers keep dancing while walking in the circle,which is quite difficult task, They have to dance while being keep going with the circle. This dance form Involves the various graceful and beautiful steps,but the basic step which is done by the dancers is to “clap”.Clapping while dancing is the most common step which is done.The dancers clap up and down and then take a circle and then clap again.
The another form of Garba is Dandiya Rass, In which two dandiyas(thick sticks)are used t do the dance. It is all like garba just the change is the use of dandiyas instead of hands for clapping.
It is a highly energetic dance which is accompanied by highly energetic music known as Garba music which is played so that the dancers can dance while enjoying the dance as well as this music also gives energy to the dancers.
Initially this dance form was done by women in various festivals but now men are also a part of this dance.This dance can be done both by men and women.
Costumes of Garba Dancer...
The costumes which the dancers wear are very beautifully decorated and colorful and quite heavy. The women dancers wear the three piece dress which is known as Chaniya Choli,this dress consists of a Choli(blouse) which is beautifully embroidered and it is accompanied by Chaniya,A long flared skirt which is decorated with mirrors, beads and stone work and this whole this is teamed up with Chunri(duppata) which is also heavily decorated and tucked up in the traditional gujrati manner.They also adore themselves with hand jewelry like bangles and bajubands,also necklaces and earings known as Jhumkas.
Boys and men wear kafni pyjamas with a Ghagra – a short round kurta- above the knees and pagadi on the head with bandhini dupatta, kada, and mojiris.
